7. PLC: First Hand Experience
Users visiting the booth were able to experience first hand how PLC worked (pictured left). Users were able to connect to the internet on PCs and TVs with PLC adaptors connected to them. Comments such as “this is very useful, since I can connect this to any electrical outlet at home” and questions such as “How clear is the signal if I watch videos at home?” were heard from the visitors. The HD-PLC line up display (pictured right), which gathered products such as PLC adaptors from in and outside Japan, attracted a lot of attention.
8. HD-PLC Drawing Attention: Perfect Technology for the Smart Grid
At the main stage, demos were given to show how easy it is to use PLC, how cameras and electrical cars are connected using HD-PLC, and how HD-PLC is drawing attention as the technology for the power transmission grid of the future, the Smart Grid. What the Smart Grid aims to do is to use the power generated from households and companies that generate power through solar panels and fuel cells, and by doing so, cut down the amount of CO2 generated from the power plants by optimizing the operation at the plants based on the amount of power generated. The demo showed how HD-PLC is the perfect technology for the Smart Grid. Examples from around the world on how HD-PLC is spreading were also introduced during the demo.
9. Product Testing in cooperation with Electric Companies begin
During the seminar at CEATEC Japan, Mr. Michimasa Aramaki, President of HD-PLC Alliance, gave a seminar on HD-PLC (Power Line Communication)’s Global Strategy and International Standardization trend. President Aramaki explained how HD-PLC can protect the environment by using it for Smart Grids. He also talked about the electrical power monitoring project in Seika, Kyoto, PLC’s international standardization by the IEEE, and the collaboration efforts with the IT industries in Brazil and China. Mr. Aramaki went to announce that new product testing with electrical companies has started at the HD-PLC house. He says that by collaborating with HD-PLC, the technology drawing the most attention for the technology of choice for the Smart Grid、the tests with show how the spread of solar energy use will affect the power grid.
